Age is no factor when it comes to being a hero, as proven by a ten year old boy in Michigan who has come to the rescue of one of his elderly neighbors.
Danny DiPietro noticed that something was out of place in his neighbor’s house as he drove past it with his father. He initially thought it was a dog but later, it turned out to be his 80-year-old neighbor who had fallen on some ice in her garage.
“It was late at night and super cold out and their garage was open and something just didn’t feel right,” young Danny DiPietro said.
As soon as he got home, he started pushing his mother to go over to the neighbor’s place to see if everything was okay. She was hesitant at first, but relented and took the family dog for a walk near the condominiums to allay her son’s concern.
Upon reaching her neighbor’s house, she spotted a barefoot woman on the floor of the garage, waving her hands for help. DiPietro raced back to her home to call 911 and sent her husband to cover the woman with blankets while they waited for emergency services to arrive. The woman eventually was rushed to a local hospital and treated for hypothermia.
The 80-year-old woman named Kathleen St. Onge lives alone in Michigan. She had slipped on an icy spot and was stranded in the cold on the floor of her open garage for about two-and-a-half hours until the 10-year-old came to her rescue with his keen observation skills and persistence.
“He saved her life, that’s for sure,” the woman’s daughter, Sandy Mitter said. “And I don’t even have the words to say how grateful we are.”
