The year 2018 seems to be a marvelous year for the Marvel movie franchise ‘No Pun Intended’. Two months after the release of the globally successful Black Panther Film, Disney Studios have decided to treat fans to another highly anticipated movie, Avengers: Infinity War. The film was probably bound to do well on its own with its superb visuals and ensemble cast still, there is no denying that the success of Black Panther played a part in boosting the ticket sales. Let’s put it this way, if this was a concert then Black Panther is the best opening act that anyone could ever ask for.
Now let’s talk numbers, in its opening weekend the film managed to earn $258.2 million, besting 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi but falling short of beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $262 million. It does not stop there, Avengers: Infinity War dominated global film markets grossing an incredible $659 million, infinitely smashing the record previously held by Fate of the Furious.(that pun might have been intended). The film achieved all this is even before its debut in China on May 3rd and Russia on May 11th.
The Marvel films are clearly on a winning streak and their luck doesn’t appear to be running out any time soon. The franchise has its place firmly set amongst the largest film franchises in the world, showing the world that it is possible to have a superhero ensemble cast and still make a very good movie. With more films like DeadPool 2 coming out in the near future, we cant wait to see what more the Marvel Comic Universe has in store for us.
It seems like the comic world is on the verge of a takeover and everyone is loving it. Just by the look of the numbers that have been amassed, there seems no signs of slowing down.
